The Context

Located in the Gold Coast neighborhood in Chicago, this high-rise home got a complete makeover. The couple had just moved back into the city, after years of raising their children in the suburbs.

Their style leaned towards an updated traditional theme, that also embraced their love of entertaining.

A New Floor Plan

The renovation included a new, open floor plan. See above for the before plan, and the final design that was chosen and developed further.

In addition to the new floor plan, parts of the ceiling were dropped 3-1/2″ to accommodate new shallow-depth recessed LED lighting.

The dropped ceiling created raised coffers over the main living and dining areas. This helped to define those spaces, adding order to the open plan.

Kitchen Updates

For the kitchen, we installed new wide-plank hardwood floors, which adds to the sense of scale and warmth.

You can also see custom floor to ceiling pantries and cabinets, a stainless steel prep sink, and gorgeous granite countertops.
